Career Reinvention

Thursday, June 6, 2013

If you’re feeling stuck in a rut or bored or even uncertain of what you want to do next with your career, you can start taking some steps to reinvent your career from right where you are. Sometimes when we want to make a career change, it can require a big move; either a new job or moving to a new company or maybe even a leap into something completely different. But for some people, smaller changes can make a bigger difference. Whether you’re ready to do something drastically different or are just simply looking to improve your current situation, you can start right now by following these four steps.

First, acknowledge that something is off. By acknowledging that you are no longer fully satisfied where you are, you are able to begin to make some changes. Acknowledging means you are aware of it, accept it, and can admit it. It’s the first step towards reinventing your career.

Next, you want to decide and commit. Now that you have admitted that things are less than ideal in your current career, it’s time to decide exactly what is wrong. What do you want to be different? What’s not working for you? Is it the people? The job content? The company culture or environment? Your boss? All of the above? Once you decide what needs to be different, you must commit to take action on it.
